Physical Description: 
�	Very elongate body
�	Dorsal fin origin in front of or above the pelvic fin origin
�	Large to medium eye
�	Broadly rounded snout, inferior mouth
�	Pale olive back and upper side, iridescent silver or violet on body
�	Row of dark spots on the side, silvery white belly
�	Black color on tail fin rays

Similar species: 
�	Blotched chub (Erimystax insignis)

Mean body size:
�	Adults are 60-100 mm standard length 

Habitat:
�	Found in warm, clear, rocky streams and rivers

Distribution in VA:
�	Found in the Tennessee drainage

Food Habits:  
�	Feed on insects and plants

Reproductive Habits: 
�	Matures in 1 year
�	Spawning occurs late April to late May 
�	Fecundity is 400 eggs per female
